Asia Pacific Taxpayer Association Meeting
We are pleased to share highlights from our recent
international engagement aimed at strengthening taxpayer advocacy and
collaboration across regions.
On 31st March, we organised a virtual meeting with members of the Asia
Pacific Taxpayers Union (APTU), focusing on regional cooperation and taxpayer
advocacy.
The session focused on the growth, structure, and impact
of taxpayer associations in different countries, fostering valuable exchange of
ideas and best practices.
The meeting featured participation from distinguished
representatives across the globe, including Mr. Pete Sepp (Washington, DC), Mr.
Bjorn Tarras Wahlberg (President, APTU, Bangkok), Mr. Jordan William (New
Zealand), Mr. Gia Jandieri (Georgia), who shared his presentation via email,
Mr. Raymond Ho, Mr. Fengjiang Liu, (China), Mr. Kenneth, and Mr. R. Shantha Kumar
(India).
During the discussion, each participant shared
perspectives on how taxpayer organizations operate in their respective countries,
highlighting their progress, challenges, and strategies for growth. A key focus
was on enhancing engagement with taxpayers and promoting awareness about their
rights and responsibilities.
Representing India, Mr. Shanthakumar emphasized the work
of the India Taxpayer Association, outlining its core activities such as
advocacy initiatives, organizing events, and actively reaching out to
taxpayers. He also highlighted the importance of educating citizens on the
benefits and responsibilities associated with being a taxpayer, reinforcing the
association’s commitment to transparency and public awareness.
This meeting marks an important step toward building
stronger international cooperation and learning from global experiences to
further empower taxpayers in India.
We look forward to continued collaboration and bringing
more such updates to our community.
